Harold Budd, the modern avant-garde minimalist composer himself, plays the electric piano on “The Pavilion Of Dreams.” This man, “…was raised in the Mojave Desert, and was inspired at an early age by the humming tone caused by wind blown across telephone wires.” (Wikipedia). His music is truly peaceful and soothing, melodies unfolding slowly like frost melting under the sun. This shit is so damn beautiful that I want to hug everyone that walks by on the sidewalk, and several times while listening I’ve had to inhale hugely, filling my lungs full, to take in the slow, simple grandeur of “Madrigals Of The Rose Angel.” Side 1 starts with an Arabic prayer composed for and performed by the alto saxophone of Marion Brown, joined by four marimbas, a harp, a celeste, and a glockenspiel. Oh yeah, and Briano Eno produced and recorded it. If you find it, get it!
